Week 19 · Second trimester
Week 19, gently.
Your baby is the size of
a mango
- 15.3 cm long
- 240 g
Your baby is being coated in a waxy protective layer called vernix caseosa.
“Wrapped in a soft coat that only they will ever wear.”
What’s happening inside
A waxy white coating called vernix caseosa covers the skin, protecting it from the amniotic fluid. It will wash off (mostly) by birth.
How you might feel
Round-ligament pain and sciatic twinges are common as the uterus grows. Many people notice a darker line down the belly (linea nigra).
